Doug Ford says no to local rec centre in troubled neighborhood

The Toronto Star is reporting that Premier Doug Ford has scrapped the idea of building a recreation centre in the Lawrence Heights neighborhood, the plan first created by the Ontario Liberals came with a price tag of $14 million dollars.

According to the Star, community centres are a good way to prevent and root out youth violence.

But Vagoline Miller a resident in the area suggested that “there is an existing community centre there and I don’t think that having an upgraded community centre in 2022 would have prevented any shootings that might have happened this summer.”
